Message from the Chairman of the Board of Directors

In 2011, Thailand was faced with rapid changes caused by the slowdown in the world economy and political tensions at home, as well as, the most devastating flood crisis in recent history, which had both direct and indirect impact on the overall economy of the country.
As part of the Ministry of Industry, FTPI played an important role in assisting and developing the capacity of business operators in order to cope with such dynamically changing situations. Those business operators who participated in our productivity development program were less affected by the incidents. In 2012, FTPI aims to further increase the capacity of business operators in order to minimize the impact of uncertainty resulting from natural catastrophes and highly competitive business circumstances.

Throughout 2011, FTPI joined its private and public sector allies in carrying out several proactive projects to continuously improve productivity among Thai business operators. This is one of FTPI’s key missions for enhancing the ability of Thai organizations, in order for them to remain competitive in world markets. These were achieved through imparting and broadening knowledge, skills, and attitudes with regard to productivity enhancement. The strong commitment to managing our operations, coupled with adherence to good governance and the support from all parties involved, enabled FTPI to achieve this objective successfully last year.

However, industrial developments in the future require even broader and more intensified collaboration and should also cover the production sector. It needs to connect agricultural, industrial, and service sectors together, based on core competencies, local wisdom, and knowledge application and innovation. The development of the industry must be carried out under an eco-friendly concept, and at the same time, it must create sustainable growth. In accordance with this ambition, FTPI has set up both short and long-term plans that will help us respond promptly to future changes and the needs of customers.

On behalf of the FTPI Board of Directors, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all members of the public and private sectors, and stakeholders. We owe special appreciation to the members of the Board of Directors and all staff, who have joined in helping FTPI grow from strength to strength, and become an effective institute that greatly contributes to the robust developments of Thailand.

Dr. Witoon Simachokedee
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry
